Eliminating And Preventing Cockroach Infestations

Cockroaches are a pest that can easily invade a home, and once they're inside, their ability to reproduce quickly makes them incredibly challenging to control. That's why it will help for homeowners to know more about cockroaches when it comes to controlling them and preventing a future infestation.

Finding The Hiding Spots

Cockroaches are likely hiding in places where you cannot see them, so you need to find out where the infestation is coming from. Pay attention to the rooms where you see cockroaches the most, such as the bathroom or kitchen, and look for dark crevices nearby where they are living. This will help you really narrow in on the infestation.

Cleaning And Sanitation

One reason that you have cockroaches in your home is because they were looking for food, and they found a good food source and decided to stay.  You'll want to do your best to make sure that there is no longer a food source for them.  This involves sweeping up crumbs, cleaning up spills, and removing food residue from surfaces.  It will require regular sanitizing and cleaning to make sure that there is no accessible food.

Fixing Leaks

Cockroaches are also attracted to water, which is why you need to fix any sources of leaking water around your home. This can include a sink that drinks regularly, a plumbing trap under a sink that occasionally leaks water, and things of that nature.

Sealing Entry Points

Cockroaches likely entered your home through a small gap in a door, window, or a wall of your home.  You'll need to find these entry points and seal them if you want to prevent a future cockroach infestation.  Look for areas around your home where anything protrudes out of it, since the gap around a pipe or utility line can be enough to let a cockroach in if it's not sealed.

Using traps And Bait

An effective way to eliminate cockroaches is with traps and bait.  Traps are strategically placed in areas where cockroaches live and can help reduce the amount of them in your home.  Bait is a substance designed to attract cockroaches, but is laced with an insecticide. The goal is for the cockroaches to carry them back back to the spot where they are hiding so the bait can kill off the colony of roaches.
