Bats Nesting In Your House? What You Need To Do

Bats are a pest that helps to take care of the mosquito population, but just because they do this job to get rid of another pest doesn't mean you want to play host to these pests. If you have noticed bats flying around your house at dusk or you've heard them inside of your house, you need to get rid of them. Although these pests are good for the environment, they can carry disease and attract other pests to your house as well. Read on for what you can do to get rid of bats at your house.

Hire A Pest Control Company

You should hire a pest control company to get rid of the bats for you. Handling these pests is not something you should ever try to do, as you could get bitten by the bat or injured in some other way. You could also harm the bat, which isn't necessary. The bat just needs to be relocated to another area away from your home, or a new nesting place needs to be found for these pests, and an expert can help make this happen.

Close Off Openings

Close off the openings to the area where the bats have begun to nest. If they are nesting in your chimney, close it off with chicken wire. If they are getting into your attic, close off the opening they are using to get inside. If they are nesting in your soffit, be sure the openings in these spaces are also secure so a bat or other pests cannot get inside. If you have found where the bats are nesting, close off the opening, but be sure to do this while the bats are out of your house. This means you have to do the work at night when they are gone.

Prevent Mosquitoes

Bats eat mosquitoes, so if your yard is full of them, it's luring the bats to your home. Get rid of the mosquitoes in your yard to help get rid of the bats and prevent them from coming back. Keep your lawn trimmed and mowed low. Fill in low-lying spaces to prevent water from puddling in your yard. If you have standing water anywhere, you need to be diligent about emptying the standing water, as this is what mosquitoes use to lay their eggs.

If you have bats in your home, you can get rid of them, but it will take some work on your part. Hire a pest control company to remove the bats, and do what you can to prevent them from returning.
