3 Common Ways To Rid Your House Of Fleas

Fleas can be one of the biggest pains in the neck to get rid of. Easily one of the most annoying insect infestations you can possibly have to deal with, fleas are itchy pests that bite at the very top layer of your skin and leave their trademark call sign behind: dreaded red bumps. Although they seem very difficult to get rid of, once you know a few methods of flea removal, they tend to dramatically drop off in numbers. Read on and discover a few common ways to get rid of fleas. If, after using these methods, you still are having trouble with the flea population in your home, call on the services of a pest control service such as Eagle Pest Eliminators to help you out.

Horse Apples

Horse apples, or Osage oranges, are a type of mulberry fruit that are generally fed to horses. They also have been historically used to get rid of insect infestations. They are particularly effective in getting rid of the dreaded flea. Make sure you have a few of the fruit handy and cut each individual one in half, placing each sliced half in rooms that have been infested or you suspect to be infested. These fruits work in a two fold manner: they will not only attract the fleas, but once they do, their juice essentially will poison the fleas.

Homemade Flea Trap

This is an incredibly effective way to get rid of fleas, and it only takes a bit of liquid dish soap, a bit of warm water, a receptacle that can hold these two items, and a direct light source, like a desk lamp. Place the receptacle full of the warm water and liquid dish soap into the room in which there are fleas, then, using your desk lamp, shine the light directly onto the receptacle. Fleas, like many insects, are attracted to light. They will jump towards it and wind up landing in the receptacle. This will cause them to drown in the concoction from which they will be unable to escape, due to the slippery dish soap. This method may take upwards of one week to fully work.

Citronella Oil

Citronella oil has long been used as a method for repelling fleas. This method is for use in rooms with tiled floors, like bathrooms and kitchens. It can also be used on hardwood floors or other slick surfaces. Simply create a concoction that you can use to mop your floors consisting of a gallon of warm water, and several drops – upwards of 20 – of citronella oil, lemongrass oil, tea tree oil, and geranium oil.
